I spotted an apple tree full of little apples. It stands unattended near the end of my Mum’s road. But I wondered for a day or two, is it okay to take some. They are just sitting there. Is the tree on private or public land, right there near the curb of the road..
On closer inspection, some of the apples look good to eat..
Finally, my gleaning ways won out. I took three..
My co-pilot, aka Mum, served as official taster of the apples. I gave her the apple in the middle. It was nicely shaped, had good coloring and a stem. She took a bite.
Mealy, not sweet and not tart—not an apple worth getting the shotgun out to shoo a gleaning girl and her Mum away. But we enjoyed the little adventure of it and went our merry way.
Mala provecho..
